I'm just curious as to why we are forever on Japan's dick. At B5 we hyped up these guys, but the only ones that came over were good in A3 and CvS1. I played White in MvC1 and he blew donkey balls. They were also horrible in MvC2 and lost pretty bad.
...Later on a rumor surfaced that WTF our entry fees were used to pay for their trip? Is this foolishness true?
@evo2k2, a much larger group of japs came to play. We catered to them by giving them their custom cabinets to play on. What about Puerto Rico, who also plays on that style of cabinet? Why didn't they get to use them as well when requested? Because we're not on their dicks, that's why. We also catered to the Japs by having another US vs Japan challenge in 3s and A3. WHY? Who in the US still seriously plays these games? We have to realize that we NEVER played them like the Japs did, and we would get slaughtered. The only reason they had these wastes of time was to cater to the Japanese (maybe that's why only about half of the people came to watch them and everybody else slept in late). If we had cut these wastes of time out, there wouldn't have been single-match MvC2 finals.
After EVO, one of the Jap players (I forget which one) supposedly stayed in the US for a few months, travelling the country and entering CvS2 tournaments (winning most of them, but I believe he los tto Ricky in one). Apparently this guy doesn't even play CvS2, but Japan is just that much better than us.
...people were FREAKING OUT that this guy would be at their tournament. Like it's some kind of big fucking deal. This guy was a bum; he was staying at people's houses for FREE, leeching money off peeps, using tourney winnings to get from tourney to tourney and buy himself food. WTF? Way to be a role model for potential gamers. If he came to my tournament, I would have sent his ass home and told him "no drifters allowed, son."
Now for this year's EVO2k3, there is an even larger group of Japs coming. Supposedly Daigo might show up. Guess what: I don't care. Really. Let me explain something to you about Japan: there are arcades on every street corner in Tokyo and Osaka. There is massive competition ALL THE TIME and massive demand for games. GAMING IS A WAY OF LIFE and a huge part of the pop culture over on that island. The US has seen NOTHING like this, and unless you lived down the street from a major arcade like CTF, the Break, SHGL, or Folsom Gameroom back in the day, chances are you NEVER saw comp like the Japanese have seen. Our SF scene is MUCH SMALLER in comparison to theirs.
So, why are the Japs so much better? They have
1. More competition
2. More precise controls
3. SUPPORT for tournaments rather than having to do it all themselves
4. Gaming is not LOOKED DOWN UPON by their society as it is in this country. "Serious" gamers are told to get a life, stop being bums and slackers. In Japan, you are respected if you are a champion in a video game, because they're just so much more popular.
If you don't think this is true, take two games: 3s and MvC2. We here in the US never really had a big 3s scene. The game was out, people played, there were majors, but the game never really drew. In Japan, it was WAY different. And so, the Japs are infinitely better than us in that game.
Now, take MvC2. It is the flipside of 3s; WE have a huge scene for it, while the Japs pretty much ignore it. Guess what? We DESTROY them in it, to no big surprise. Their own nationals, Super Battle Opera, didn't even have MvC2 anywhere in sight, because they knew they'd get destroyed. Because they don't play it.
So, WHY ARE WE FOREVER ON JAPANS DICKS?!?! Why do we pay for them to come here, and cater to them and not others that come a long way? THEY ARE BETTER BECAUSE THEY HAVE A BETTER SCENE. When OUR scene for MvC2 became better and bigger than theirs, we surpassed them. THEY did not cater to us at SBO by having these dumb exhibitions that they knew they would lose (MvC2) just for the hell of it; so why did we insist on having them at EVO?
If the Japanese want to come to the US, that's all well and good. But it's not huge event. They are just normal people like you and me, who are good at games; just DIFFERENT games than the ones we play, because the only really huge SF scene the US has EVER had, was MvC2. So GET OFF THEIR DICKS.
